Liked: Whose Approval Are You Living For?

Liked: Whose Approval Are You Living For is a new release from Thomas Nelson that addresses the topics most relevant to today’s girls, such as social media, identity, friendship and faith. It’s available everywhere books are sold, including Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Christianbook.com, and helps parents navigate the unprecedented challenges of raising kids in the digital age.

For many girls it starts early. The desire to be perfect. The need for approval. The longing for acceptance and being liked by a lot of people.

Thanks to social media, these desires now get channeled online. Girls can curate an image, build a following, and test-drive identities until they find one that draws attention and applause. But in this quest to be liked and noticed, girls often fail to feel loved and known. The result is a generation of girls who hunger for real and authentic relationships – yet are unclear on how to create them.

From popular blogger and bestselling author Kari Kampakis comes a powerful book for girls in the digital age. Designed to empower teens and tweens through the Christian faith, it’s packed with godly wisdom and practical advice related to identity, friendships, social media, and a relationship with God.

 Topics covered in Liked include:
✔️ Living for God’s approval, not human approval
✔️ Using social media wisely

✔️ Spreading kindness, love, and compassion

✔️ Distinguishing online friends from real friends

✔️ Handling rejection, criticism, and volatile emotions

✔️ Making an eternal difference, not a temporary splash.

For anyone exhausted by the quest to impress – and ready to rest in God’s unconditional love – Liked is the answer. Written succinctly with thought-provoking questions, it’s an ideal resource for a small group or youth group study, and a conversation-starter that will quickly unite mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends by speaking to the female heart.

Kari Kampakis is a mom of four daughters who writes about everyday events and significant moments that reveal God’s movement in our lives. She loves girls and believes many world problems can be solved by slumber parties, late-night chats with your best friends, music, and dancing.

Kari’s work has been featured on The Huffington Post, The TODAY Show, EWTN, Yahoo! News, The Eric Metaxas Show, Ann Voskamp’s blog, Hands Free Mama, and other national outlets. Her first book, 10 ULTIMATE TRUTHS GIRLS SHOULD KNOW, has been used widely across the U.S. for small group and church youth group studies. My Thoughts:

I think this is a necessary book for moms and daughters. Our girls are growing up in a completely different world than we did and we must prepare ourselves to better understand and help our girls deal with th various pressures they will experience.

I currently teach a PreTeen/Teen Girls Bible Study at my church and am always on the lookout for great resources to grow as a leader and to help reach my girls with. Liked is one of those books that should be required reading for anyone working with girls in ministry. It really helps to have this guide to help me better understand the realm of social media and the impact it is having on our girls.

I am also currently expecting my first girl and it is reassuring to know that there are resources like Liked out there to encourage and help parents navigate through the world of PreTeen/Teen girls. Don’t miss this one!!!

Waiting for Wonder

What if, in this waiting, God is calling us to more?

Join author Marlo Schalesky on a unique, contemplative journey to reveal the wonder that is often missed when we find ourselves struggling to wait well. Walking through the life of the biblical character Sarah, one who knows what it means to wait, you will discover a glimpse of God’s character that will give you strength to keep hoping and praying for the desires of your heart.

Waiting for Wonder is a journey into the heart of God where you will wrestle with personal questions, think deeply about God’s true character, and learn to appreciate His divine work as you discover your own path to the promised land. Recapture your hope, restore your soul, and renew your vision of a wondrous Savior when you learn to live on God’s time.

MY THOUGHTS:

Waiting is rarely easy. Waiting for God can be a whole different experience altogether. I’ve been there…I’m there now. My husband and I are waiting to see if God will heal our unborn baby or if He will call this precious gift home with Him. Waiting is tough. It tests you, like…..deep down.

Marlo’s book “Waiting for Wonder” is a great comfort and informative tool for the waiting process. Whatever it is you are waiting for, whatever you’re longing for…God knows, He hears and believe it or not…He is working out His plan. If you are in the process of waiting, I would highly highly recommend you pick up a copy of this book.

A to Z: Practical Guide to Pray for Your Community (Worthy, November 2016)

Change the world one prayer at a time.

God’s Word is many things—instructive, historical, poetic. Yet to Jennifer Rothschild, the Bible is also an incredible love letter. In 66 Ways God Loves You, she walks you through each of the sixty-six books of the Bible and shows, in concise and thoughtful ways, how every book reflects God’s love for each of us, such as:
In Genesis God fashions me with His hands.

In Esther He makes me royalty.

In Acts God’s Spirit comes to live in me.

In I Peter God gives me victory over suffering.
Each chapter includes a short, meaningful reading on the message of that book in the Bible, along with a simple takeaway to help apply the message to your own life.
Whether you are a new believer, struggling with doubt, questioning your self-worth, or just looking to celebrate God’s unwavering love for you, join Jennifer as she opens the Word in fresh, beautiful ways to show you how God’s love is the common thread that runs through every single page.

40 Days to a Joyful Motherhood

Do you ever wish mothering came with a concrete set of instructions—an easy recipe to follow? Take a spiritual and creative breather from motherhood and invest ten minutes daily into the devotions found in Sarah Humphrey’s 40 Days to a Joyful Motherhood. In a modern society where moms often have a full and busy plate, these devotions focus on six key topics of motherhood. In addition to the devotions, the beautiful pages are adorned with handmade illustrations to help you refresh from long days or even occasional sleepless nights. So, grab your colors and a little quiet time for yourself while doodling at the kitchen table. You will be grateful you did!

Wouldn’t it be marvelous if mothering came with a concrete set of instructions—an easy recipe we could follow? Instead, motherhood challenges women to find their faith, their true selves, and their family through daily doses of trial and error. It is a brilliant and healing time of life that is full of joy, pain, and beauty with a small side of crisis (and humor). What mothers do not know, they learn. And through this lifelong process of learning, they nurture and care for the most precious gifts on earth: children. In a modern society where moms often have a full and busy plate, these 10 minute daily devotions focus on six key topics of motherhood:

—Self-acceptance

—Self-care

—Reconciling with grief, hope and expectations

—Generosity

—Presence

—Forgiveness

In addition to the devotions, these beautiful pages are adorned with handmade illustrations to help you refresh from long days or even occasional sleepless nights. So, grab your colors and a little quiet time for yourself while doodling at the kitchen table. You will be grateful you did!

My Review:

40 Days of Joyful Motherhood is such a fun, creative, relaxing devotional! It is unlike any devotional I’ve experienced, (and I’ve done a lot!)  I loved the beautiful drawings that were fun to color. But don’t think that the author has skimmed on the devotional part. These devotions will speak straight to moms heart…nourishing, refreshing, encouraging and challenging. I absolutely love this devotional! Each day is numbered and begins with a Scripture and ends with a smile prayer. Each day comes with a corresponding color sheet, and some of these are interactive. If you’re a mom who enjoys the new adult coloring books and wants to grow closer to the Lord, 40 Days of Joyful Motherhood is a must!

The 10 Myths of Teen Dating

There’s no greater moment of panic in a parent’s life than when their daughter begins to date.

Due to their lack of knowledge about the world their teens face coupled with the scant dating information they received as teens, many parents feel ill-equipped to guide their daughters through the minefield that is teen dating.

And by the same token, teenage girls crave information about dating and relationships. And left to their own devices, many will develop their own assumptions about dating by talking to their friends or watching the latest TV shows and movies. But that will only lead them down a path toward heartbreak.

So how do you engage your daughter in discussions about dating, relationships, and her future happiness? Expert educator Daniel Anderson and his twenty something daughter, Jacquelyn, help you navigate the biggest dating myths, including: the myth that a boyfriend will make your daughter happy, that she should trust her feelings, or that sex will enhance her relationship. Combining the latest scientific research with poignant personal stories, as well as proven truths and practical application, The 10 Myths of Teen Dating will equip you to teach your daughter how to date smart for today . . . and tomorrow.

Daniel Anderson is a former college All-American basketball player, an expert educator, and a father of two grown daughters and a son. As a veteran high school teacher in the public school system, Daniel was troubled by how his students approached dating and relationships. He and his daughter, Jacquelyn Anderson—a twenty something and also a high school teacher—decided to address this need by equipping parents with “The 10 Myths of Teen Dating,” their first book together. Daniel and Jacquelyn both make their home in Portland, Oregon.

MY THOUGHTS:

Teens today are bombarded with so many mixed messages concerning dating and it is imperative that they know the truth. They can become disillusioned through it all. They need a guide to help them sort through the mess of it all. That’s where The Ten Myths of Teen Dating can help!

This book is the perfect guide for starting conversations about dating. I love that the authors share actual statistics and real life examples. I would recommend this book to all families. Dating is a huge part of teen and young adult life and parents need to prepare to help their teens make wise choices.
