Lily Winter’s wings are folded so tightly around her daughter that when empty nest arrives, she feels she can no longer fly. But Lily’s lonely, widowed life changes in a heartbeat when she goes to visit a woman who is almost a stranger to her-a woman who also happens to be her mother. During their fiery reunion, her mother reveals a dark family secret that she’d been hiding for decades-Lily has an identical twin sister who was put up for adoption when they were just babies.
Without looking back, Lily-with her fear of flying-boards a jumbo jet and embarks on a quest to find her sister which leads half way around the world to Melbourne, Australia. Befriended by imprudent Ausie, he might prove to be the key to finding her sister. But her journey becomes a circle that leads her back home to attempt a family reunion and to find the one dream she no longer imagined possible-the chance to fall in love again.

JOJO’S REVIEW…
“I sat on a 747 , trying to talk myself out of a panic attack.”
As I read the first line of WINTER IN FULL BLOOM, I felt an immediate connection with the main character, Lily. This opening scene was hilarious and I’m glad that I was not the one sitting on a 747, warding off panic attacks. I have never flown in my life, and it’s not something I aspire to do either. But Lily has reasons that warrant forcing herself out of her comfort zone. And reading about her experience, made me feel a little bit better about my own phobia…lol. I really thought this was a very interesting way to open the book, it caught me off guard…in a good way!

On this flight, she meets a girl, Jenny.

“You have to ask yourself: What am I most afraid of?”

This is Jenny’s first line, and since she is only a tween, Jenny’s candor and grown-up conversation style adds to the hilarity of the situation. I really enjoyed this opening scene, it hooked me and did not let go.

The character Jenny reminded me a lot of a character from Gilmore Girls…

I also love another character, Marcus. At first, I wasn’t quite sure what to make of this James McAvoy look-a-like and neither was Lily. But as the relationship develops, we learn that there is more to Marcus than meets the eye. Lily and Marcus quickly share deep life secrets with one another, not fully understanding this strange connection they have. Marcus decides to help Lily on her quest to find her long lost twin sister.
Even though Marcus and Lily seem to hit it off quickly, I did not feel the relationship was forced. I thought it was sweet and romantic and I really really like Marcus.
When Lily does find her twin, Camille, it isn’t exactly a happy reunion. There are definitely some family secrets and bitterness beneath the surface. I think the author did a marvelous job in writing these very complex characters.

I have to say that WINTER IN FULL BLOOM is one of my FAVORITE BOOKS OF 2013!!!

*****5/5 STARS***** HIGHLY RECOMMEND, DON’T MISS THIS ONE!!!

This book is character driven and emotion driven. I quickly became attached to these characters. The relationship between Lily and her mother (wow….very intense) saddened me. I was shocked as secrets were revealed and I too wanted Lily to find love and open up more.
i love the setting of the book (Australia), the author writes in a way that allows readers to experience the scenery, the foods…I love it!
WINTER IN FULL BLOOM is a story of family, faith, second chances, and making peace with your past.
