Emmalyne Knox and Tavin MacLachlan were destined to be together…until the tragic deaths of Emmalyne’s youngest sisters. Family tradition mandates that the youngest daughter should remain single to care for her parents in their old age, and now that daughter is Emmalyne. Her father unyielding, Emmalyne surrenders to her duty, heartbroken. Tavin leaves town, equally devastated.
Years later, Emmalyne’s family moves, and she and Tavin meet again. Their feelings for each other are as strong as ever, but their painful past and Emmalyne’s father still stand between them. Soon both families are in the midst of the growing conflict rising between the workers at the granite quarry that Tavin’s father owns and operates. When a series of near-fatal accidents occur, Tavin must figure out who is behind the attacks before someone gets killed.
Bound by obligation, yet yearning for a future together, can Emmalyne and Tavin dare to dream that God could heal a decade-long wound and change the hearts of those who would stand in the way of true love?
MY REVIEW OF “The QUARRYMAN’S BRIDE”…
Though this is the second book in the Land of Shining Water Series that this author is writing, it can absolutely be read as a stand-alone. The story is set in the 1890s and traditions were a bit different back then. When Emmalyne’s older sisters are killed, Emmalyne, who is engaged to Tavin, is expected to drop the engagement and future she’s planned and care for her parents…after all, it’s tradition, it’s what’s expected. Tavin wants Emmalyne to elope, but she cannot dishonor her family. Her engagement is ended and her family moves away.
Eleven years later, the couple is reunited but time does crazy things to the heart. Can they finally have the happy ending they’ve longed for?
Tracie Peterson has crafted a story rich in love, loss, hope, and perseverance. As I read I could not help but think about things that have happened in my own life that I didn’t understand, things that caused me to question God’s plan. The times when I’ve struggle with my own desires and what I thought was best vs. God’s will and what He knows is best. In other words, I could relate to the main character and really felt her pain and her struggle to do the right thing. I appreciated the author’s real-ness in showing the bitterness and hurt that families experience through the trials of life.
I give THE QUARRYMAN’S BRIDE by Tracie Peterson *****5/5 STARS*****
Fans of historical romance will not want to miss this one! Mrs. Peterson really knows her stuff historically and it shows in her writing. I also think that fans of Persuasion by Jane Austen will love Emmalyne’s story!
